Three main types / techniques to Lash Extensions.
I will try to give you my best description using my own words and put together in a way to best describe the lash service that is provided by me at Essential Beauty.
Please be aware that this wording may be used differently across the industry and when you are researching for your needs and requirements that you are mindful and careful of this fact.
The facts that I give you below are put together to the best of my knowledge and experience.
The Ultimate Semi Permanent lash extensions - this is the ultimate lash treatment.
Individual lashes applied to the individual natural lash to create a desired look. Infills must be done every 2 to 3 weeks to keep that full lash look and replace lost lashes through the natural shedding process. These lashes last for as long as you want them to.
Express Semi Permanent eyelash extensions. This is an express version of the above which uses a different application method enabling a full set in half the time and a fraction of the cost.
These lashes must be removed after 2 weeks by a trained professional and if required re applied in full.
Cluster lashes. This is a method of creating a false extension look to the eyelashes. This treatment is ok for a night out, and only lasts for a long weekend at the most. They are glued and fixed to the lash line using your existing lashes as a platform. In my opinion this method does not look so natural. Cluster lashes have to be removed by a trained professional. These can be bought retail for the DIY market.
What are lash extensions made from?
Synthetic polyester fibres, shaped to mimic the look of the natural eyelash.
How are they applied?
For the Ultimate Lash Treatment the synthetic lashes are bonded one by one to each natural lash.
This is done using a special bonding agent and should only be done by a skilled and professionally trained lash designer. The glues used are medical grade and should not cause any irritation. The glue should never touch the skin.
In all cases a patch test is required in case on the rare occasion that you may be allergic.
The Express Lash uses a different technique for maximum lash impact.
There is absolutely no discomfort to the eye. Lashes are made thicker and longer through professional application techniques.
How long do they last?
With proper care and maintenance they will last as long as the remaining lifetime of the natural eyelash that the extension has been applied to. Natural eyelashes have a 6/8 week life-cycle. You should come for infills every 2 to 3 weeks in order to keep that gorgeous full lash look.
Semi permanent lashes last for several weeks with regular maintenance. Factors such as lifestyle and general aftercare will affect how long the lashes last. Everyone is different.
With Express Lash's we advise for them to be removed at the 2 to 3 week point. You would have had natural shedding still, so the remaining will be removed professionally.
What are the aftercare requirements?
Your Lash Designer will advise once your treatment is complete and supply you with an 'after care' leaflet.
As we lose natural eyelashes every day there is usually a need for an infill treatment every 2 or 3 weeks. Generally, you should have an infill appointment when you have lost no more than half the lashes. This is to keep your lashes looking full and beautiful.
Home care is a very important part and will impact on how long they last. As an Lash Designer, I have been trained to apply lashes in the correct way and with high end quality products to ensure the longest lash life possible.
Please see Caring for your Lash Extensions below.
How long will my appointment take?
A full set of lashes takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. This is of course dependent on the look that you require, and how many natural lashes you have.
Express Lash Extensions - Full Set Takes approximarely 1 hour.
Re lash / infill appointments should take approximately 1 hour for those that choose to maintain every 2 weeks.
I do ask that you block out additional time from your schedule for your own comfort.
Will the extensions damage my lashes?
If lash extensions are applied professionally and in the correct way, you will not have damage to your own lashes. You also have the assurance that the adhesive I use is medical grade and extremely gentle.
However, please be mindful of the aftercare requirements so that your lashes don't fall out prematurely. Rubbing your eyes and incorrectly removing makeup can result in the lashes falling out and taking a natural lash with it.
Is black the only colour?
Lash extensions come in a wide range of colours, thicknesses and sizes but are mostly jet black, which pleases the majority of my customers. They are available in colours including blue, purple, brown, red, green, pink, wine-red and blonde.
In most cases black is always used, but stunning effects can be made in using these colours to highlight colour. Highlights in the right colour can achieve stunning looks... perhaps to match an outfit, or eye colouring. If you are interested in using colour, please talk to me to ensure that I have the correct stock and solution for you.
Can I wear mascara with my lash extensions?
Most clients love the fact that they do not need to apply any mascara anymore! However, if you just cannot live without mascara, I do retail special lash extension mascara that is water based and easily removed not damaging the lashes themselves. You may find that you need to start wearing a little mascara close to your infill appointments.
Will they look false or overdone?
Many clients that are new to eyelash extensions worry that they will look false. I pride myself in offering many choices in eyelash extensions and not just a one look suits all treatment. What suits one person will not suit another.
Your requirements and look are all discussed during the consultation and patch test appointment that is done prior to your actual lash appointment. If you want a natural look then that is what you get.
If you want overdone, well you can have that too providing your own lashes can take this look. It really is up to you.
Please arrive at your appointment free from makeup and eye make-up if possible.
If you are a contact lens wearer, please remove these too and bring along your glasses as you will not be able to put new lenses in for a few hours.
You may wish to wear something comfortable as you will be laying down on a couch for a few hours. Don't worry you won't get cold your all tucked up under a blanket, but comfort is necessary to reduce wriggling.
Caring for your Lash Extensions...
I know that you will absolutely love your lash extensions, and want to keep them for as long as possible. The following guidelines are important to help you do this.
- Do not get your lashes wet for 24-48 hours after application to ensure that the bond is fully set. This includes having very hot baths / showers where steam will affect the bonding process.
- Avoid exposing your lashes to heat or steam for 24-48 hours for the same reason. Be mindful of timing when going on holidays.
- Avoid rubbing your eyes and lashes.
- Do not use an eyelash curler, these can melt and damage your lashes.
- Be gentle when cleansing the lash area.
- Do not use oil based cleansers or make up removers.
- Applying your usual eye creams is fine, just be careful near the lash line.
- Normal eye makeup can be worn. However be careful that you do not let any makeup migrate onto the lashes. Mineral makeup brands with no oils are recommended.
- Swimming is fine after the initial 48 hours. However excessive exposure to chlorine could weaken the adhesive bond.
- Never pick or pull at your lashes.
- If you wish to remove your lashes, this should be done only by a trained professional using professional de-bonding agents.
Removal of semi permanent lashes is quick and easy, without causing damage to your own lashes. It must be done by a professional lash technician.
All lash extension treatments require a full consultation along with a patch test. Please be mindful of this when booking.
Even if you have had eyelash extensions before a new patch test is still required.
Each technician uses different adhesives to suit and therefore contain different levels of solvents. Please respect our guidelines that are now mandatory with our insurers and BABTAC. Thank you.
Please contact me if you would like further information or indeed have any other questions.
The Eyelash Extension Treatment is highly skilled and requires therapists to have been trained to a very high standard. All Lash Designers have undertaken and passed a comprehensive training course recognised by BABTAC, The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists & Professional Beauty Direct.
